Biosynthesis of Methionine in Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. Kinetics and Mechanism of Reaction of S-adenosylmethionine:homocysteine Methyltransferase.

چکیده
It is now firmly established that X-adenosylmethionine is the most important biological methyl donor in a variety of transmethylation reactions (I). However, in spite of the large number of methyltransferases that have been described, little information is available concerning the enzymatic mechanism of the methyl transfer from S-adenosylmethionine to a substrate resulting in the formation of a methylated product and X-adenosylhomocysteine. In previous work (2) we have described a methyltransferase obtained from Xaccharomyces cerevisiae that catalyzes the following reaction

The Mechanism of Chromium Biosorption by Saccharomyces Cerevisiae
The Biosorption property of S. cerevisiae for chromium uptake was investigated in an immobilized cell bioreactor. Saw dust was utilized as the solid bed in the reactor. Adsorption of S. cerevisiae on saw dust obeys a first order reaction kinetic up to 6 hours. The immobilized biomass particles are porous and exist in the new generation of biological adsorbent. Chromium biosorption was studied i...
متن کاملBiosynthesis of Methionine in Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. Partial Purification and Properties of S-adenosylmethionine: Homocysteine Methyltransferase.
The biosynthesis of methionine from homocysteine may occur by transmethylation or through l-carbon addition from serine via tetrahydrofolate. It has been established that acetothetin, dimethyl-P-propiothetin, and betaine serve as methyl donors for the methylation of homocysteine in mammalian liver (l-3), but these compounds are inactive in microbial systems. The participation of S-adenosylmethi...
متن کاملBiosynthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles using Intracellular Extract of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Evaluation of its Antibacterial and Antioxidant Activities
Introduction: Attention to the biosynthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) has been increased recently since they are cost-effective, eco-friendly, and potential alternatives to chemical and physical methods. This study aimed to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) using an intracellular extract of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Moreover, it was attempted to evaluate their antibacterial and antioxi...
متن کاملRole of S-adenosylmethionine in methionine biosynthesis in yeast.
Extracts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae were used to develop a cell-free system capable of converting the beta-carbon of serine into the methyl group of methionine. No requirement for either S-adenosylmethionine or S-adenosylhomocysteine could be demonstrated for net methionine biosynthesis. Growth of the cells in B(12) did not affect the reaction. The mechanism for the methylation of homocysteine...
متن کاملCharacterization of Phosphate Membrane Transport in Saccharomyces cerevisiae CEN.PK113-5D under Low-Phosphate Conditions Using Aerobic Continuous Culture
Two different growth media, namely complex and defined media, were used to examine establishment of steady-state conditions in phosphate-limited culture system of Saccharomyces cerevisiae CEN.PK113-5D strain. Using the defined growth medium, it was possible to obtain steady state condition in the continuous culture. The effect of phosphate concentration on the growth of S. cerevisiae in pho...
